Adam Dobrer

Canadian politics, read against the rest of the world.

Every note in this margin is in my own handwriting

I'm Adam Dobrer, though most people call me Dobby. I write The Balagan, run data and get-out-the-vote work for campaigns, and build small tools that make politics easier to follow.

About

I studied political science at UBC, focused on international law and armed conflict, with a minor in contemporary Middle Eastern history. That pairing still shapes how I read the news: what happens in Tehran or Jerusalem rarely stays there, and it usually turns up in Ottawa sooner than people expect.

Then there's what I like to call my Jewish CV. I was a StandWithUs Canada Emerson Fellow and a CJPAC Fellow, spent two years doing advocacy work for Hillel BC, where I led a ten-day trip to Israel for 25 UBC student leaders, and I keep going back to Israel as staff on Birthright trips.

Lately it's been campaigns, from knocking doors to building the data tools behind them. In 2026 I ran for Richmond City Council myself.

The Balagan

Balagan is Hebrew for chaos, and I help people make sense of it; that's the beat.

  2. The Prosecutor Is Gone. The Warrants Must Follow.Aug 2026Karim Khan’s removal exposes the compromised investigation, dubious jurisdiction and double standards behind The Hague’s case against Israel.
  3. Fault Line Pipeline IV: The Grand Bargain?Jul 2026Carney's runway for phantom progress is running out.
